The cool thing about this trick is it doesn’t just speed up indexing, it completely removes the need for it. Just add this to your vimrc: This delay would be fine if Ctrl-P worked in the background, but due to Vim limitations, it can’t, so you have to frequently run it on the command-line and wait for the update. You might also consider installing vim-yoink which contains other clipboard related improvements mentioned in this article. That can be very frustrating with a big project as it takes 5-10 seconds to update, which is not a good thing when you’re desperately trying to jump around files.
